DANGERS OF OXYTOCIN

When a mother reached at full term pregnancy and that mother not experience natural pain.then Doctors start induction to induce labour.

There is th ree types of induction to start labor.

1- Medical Induction

2- Surgical induction

3- Combined Induction

Today will discuss about medical Induction means ( Medicine used to induce labour pain artificially)

Here question is that which medicine Doctors used to induce labour.

There is mostly 2 medicine used to start Induction of labor.

1- oxytocin

2- Prostaglandin

Oxytocin is a hormone which is responsible for labour pain .if a mother not experiencing naturally pain Doctors order injection oxytocin to induce labour artificially.

All ready in privious post I have explained how to give or calculate injection oxytocin in Milliunits ( acute dose to prevent uterus rupture)

Here will Discuss about Dangerous of Oxytocin infusion if you are not giving oxytocin in proper or correct dose.

DANGERS OF OXYTOCIN INFUSION

1– If you will administer injection oxytocin in careless , means Docter has ordered 2 units,and you don’t know how to give and you will give 2.5 units ,then because of  inadequate knowledge regarding dose of Oxytocin  there is chanse of uterine rupture due to hyperstimulation of uterus.

2-Careless administration of Oxytocin can cause fetal hypoxia.

But here you will ask me why? Prolonge use of Oxytocin causes fetal hypoxia.( Hypoxia means low level of oxygen in body tissues)

When you will administer more than the normal dose there is not only the chanse of uterus rupture but also

Fetal hypoxia.( Due to more dosese of oxytocin there will be hyper stimulation of uterus.and due to hyperstimulation of uterus the uterine artery will compress and blood supply to fetus by placena reduce and oxygen supply also reduce.

3-Oxytocin has antidiuretic effect means I am explaining you in simple.

Anti means – Against

Diuretic- Means , Producing urine

Antidiuretic means – Body produce less urine .

Injection oxytocin has an antidiuretic effect means when you will give oxytocin high dose then body will reabsorb water back into the blood stream so that less urine form .

4-Due to prolong use of high doses of injection oxytocin there muscle fibres loss responsive to Oxytocin so that uterine atony occur.( Uterine atony means uterous will not contract properly after child birth.
