Iv fluid  Drops factor calculation for GNM 1st  year and B.sc Nursing is very important to give proper care and  treatment to patient.

When patient get admission in hospital.and doctor order some medicine to  add in iv fluid then  should give with proper calculation.

Example injection KCL which doctor order to add in iv fluid then transfuse to patient.

So there is very necessary to give accurate dose of  medicine with Iv drops . because we can’t give injection KCL in first drip .

Anather example one child admitted in pediatrics ward .and Doctor order  iv fluids , there is also necessary to keep good knowledge about how to give accurate dose or drops of iv fluid .

As. Per doctors order injection 5% dextrose 500 ml to be infused over 4 hours by using microdripset calculate drops per minute.

To find out solution 3 things are needed

1- total volume ( here total volume – 500 ml )

2- Time -( here time is 4 hours)

3- Drop factor – ( Here  factor is 20 , because we using micro set )

Formula

Total volume / time in minutes × Drop factor ( Total volume devided by time in minutes multiply by Drop factor.

500 / 4×60 × 20 = 41.6

Means if we will infuse 41.6 drops per minute then the fluid will finish in 4 hours.
