Medical and Surgical Induction of Labor for ANM ,GNM,BSC ,MSC Nursing

There are mainly three methods of induction to start labor

1- Medical induction.

when due to any cause patient or women not expriencing labour pain naturally after expected date of delivery,then in that case doctor order to give injection or medicine to start labor ( Artificially)such as injection oxytocin and prostaglandin, that is called medical induction.( It is called medical Induction because here medicines are used to start labor pain )

11-SURGICAL INDUCTION OF LABOUR

Surgical induction of labor , in this method Doctor made a whole in amniotic sac artificially to induce labour.This is called artificial rupture of membrane.ARM.

111- COMBINED METHOD OF INDUCTION

iii-Combined methods of induction means here both methods( medical and surgical nduction started),Means Doctor order medical Induction such as inj oxytocin for inducing labour , with infusion of oxytocin to patient ARM can be done to induce labour .

Medical Induction -Under medical Induction two drugs are discussed

1-Oxytocin

2-Prostaglandins

Indications for medical induction.

1- Intrauterine death of the fetus

Intrauterine death of the fetus means death of the fetus inside the uterus before deliery.

2-Premature rupture  of the membranes

premature of rupture of membrane means (here membrane means amniotic sac ,amniotic sac tear before starting of labour.due to tear in amniotic sac there is chanse of infection to mother and fetus .so Doctor order antibiotics to prevent infection

3-Along with surgical induction (here surgical induction means Artificial rupture of membranes ,In this procedure Doctor artificially make a whole in amniotic sac by Kochers forcep to induce labour .

4-Failur of surgical induction( in failure of surgical induction means by Artificial rupture of membranes contraction not started then medical induction should started ,in medical induction injection oxytocin,prostaglandins ,are medicine used to start labor.

Nurses should give with doctors order to patient.
